Shopify order notifications on your iPhone
Connect your Shopify store to Honk and every new order reaches your iPhone as a Beep-beep, with the total and the customer’s name, while cancellations and refunds arrive as a Loud honk. You set it up in your Shopify admin with one URL. There’s no app to install and no code.
The Shopify app can already notify you about orders. Honk is for when the store is one of several things you keep an eye on: orders arrive in the same inbox as your payments, your website and your servers, with quiet hours and a digest per project.
Before you start
- A Honk account. Honk is invite-only for now: request access.
- A project for the store, for example “Shop”, in a workspace where you’re an owner or admin.
- Access to your Shopify admin, with permission to change the store’s settings.
1. Create the connection in Honk
In the Honk web app, open the project, go to Connections and click Connect a service. Choose Shopify, keep the name or change it, and click Connect.
Honk shows the connection’s Webhook URL, which starts with https://honk-honk.app/v1/hooks/shopify/. Copy it, and keep the page open for step 3.
2. Add the webhooks in Shopify
In your Shopify admin, open Settings ▸ Notifications ▸ Webhooks and click Create webhook. Choose the event, set Format to JSON, paste the URL from Honk into URL, choose the latest Webhook API version, and click Save.
Shopify sends one event per webhook, so repeat this for each event you want, with the same URL every time:
- Order creation, for new orders.
- Order cancellation.
- Refund create.
- Order payment, if you also want a note when an order is paid.
3. Paste the signing key into Honk
Below the list of webhooks, Shopify shows the key your webhooks are signed with. Copy it, paste it into Signing secret in Honk and click Save secret.
Honk refuses Shopify’s deliveries until the key is saved. After that, it checks the signature of every delivery and turns away the ones that don’t match.
4. Send a test
In Shopify, open the menu in a webhook’s row and click Send test. Honk treats the test like a real delivery: for Order creation, Shopify’s sample order arrives as a Beep-beep within seconds. Delete it from the inbox afterwards. The connection in Honk shows the time of the last delivery, or the last error, such as a key that didn’t match.

What each event becomes
- A new order (
orders/create): a Beep-beep, “New order #1001 · 84.00 EUR”, with the customer’s name, or “Guest checkout”, and a link to the order in your Shopify admin. - A cancelled order (
orders/cancelled): a Loud honk, with the reason Shopify recorded. - A refund (
refunds/create): a Loud honk, “Refund for order ID 5508123456 · 20.00 EUR”, with the note, the refunded items and a link to the order. Shopify’s refund names the order only by its ID, not by its number (#1001), so the items help you tell which order it was. - A paid order (
orders/paid): a Light honk.
Each kind has its own group: all new orders share one, all refunds another. The first order pushes right away. Later orders arrive as an update with the latest order and the running count, at most one every 5 minutes, and after a quiet day the next order pushes again. Every event stays in the inbox, so you can scroll through the day’s orders.
If the webhooks come from a Shopify app you built yourself, paste that app’s client secret instead of the store’s key. Honk then also reports when the app is uninstalled (app/uninstalled), as a Long honk, because its webhooks stop at that moment.
Choose what you hear about
You choose the events when you create the webhooks in Shopify: leave out Order payment, for example, if new orders are enough. To keep orders from buzzing at night, set quiet hours in the project’s My notifications: you get one summary when they end.
About customer data
A message carries what it shows: the order number, the total, the customer’s name or email, the reason for a cancellation and, for a refund, the note and the refunded items. Honk doesn’t keep the rest of Shopify’s delivery. It keeps messages for 3, 14 or 30 days, depending on your plan, and uses them only to show them to you.
Plans and limits
Each connection counts toward your workspace’s plan: Free includes 2, Pro 20 and Team 100. Messages from Shopify count toward the plan’s daily message and push limits like any others; pricing lists them.
Pushes arrive in Honk for iPhone. If you take payments through Stripe, the Stripe guide adds failed payments and disputes to the same project. For a WordPress store, see the WooCommerce guide, and the integrations page lists every other way to send to Honk.
Honk is invite-only for now: request access. Everything in this guide works on the Free plan.
